UNC Service

UNC-Chapel Hill has been my academic home for 30+ years. During these years, I've served UNC and the local community as a graduate research assistant, faculty member, research administrator, and non-profit board member. I am Research Professor; Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Director of Research Compliance and Training in the Department of Psychiatry. In addition, I currently serve the broader UNC research community as co-Director of NC TraCS Regulatory Services, co-Chair of the UNC IRB, and founding member of the UNC Scientific Review Committee, and I am Secretary/Treasurer of Tick-borne Infections Council of NC, Inc.

Candidate Statement

With 20+ years as a non-tenured faculty member in the SOM, I've come to understand the highs and lows of life as a PI; weathered setbacks and found success in adapting to changing landscapes through collaboration; learned to be effective while in constant flux; and flourished over time in my increasingly diverse campus leadership roles. I bleed Tar Heel blue; nothing excites me more than the prospect of playing some role in making UNC a better place for all and helping shine a light on the awesome institution it is. I believe we discover and fulfill our life’s purpose when we engage with others, that every moment has the potential to be a teachable moment, and that realizing that fact breathes life into everyday encounters. I want to serve on the Faculty Council, as an avenue of living out my personal values in my professional activities.
