UNC Service

Since 1997, I have served UNC in a variety of capacities. My career at UNC began in 1974 when I came here as a Freshman. For the last 47 years, I have learned about UNC governance from a variety of perspectives - undergraduate student, graduate student, resident advisor, employee, professional student, faculty, and now as chair of emergency medicine. I have served two terms of the Faculty Council where I learned even more about the internal mechanisms, people, and structure that allow us all to thrive on this campus. I presently serve on the Executive Committee and the Financial Committee of the Faculty Practice.

Candidate Statement

I am grateful for the opportunity to be a candidate for the Financial Exigency and Program Change Committee election. I have spent most of my adult life at UNC and have, at each stage of my career, learned much about UNC - its foundations, its mission, and its commitment to serving our students, community, and faculty. In my current position as chair of emergency medicine, I manage a complex budget and navigate the competing priorities of the health care system. I am a member of the Faculty Practice Finance Committee and participate in intense budget planning and implementation decisions. These opportunities have provided me with the skills, context, and background to fully participate in the Financial Exigency and Program Change Committee and to work effectively for the faculty and students in decisions affecting our future.
