Faculty Council to Discuss Turnitin, UNC Global on 1/13
The January Faculty Council agenda features a presentation on the status of UNC’s globalization efforts from Chief International Officer Ron Strauss, and a presentation on Turnitin.com by Center for Faculty Excellence Director Eric Muller and Executive Director Todd Zakrajsek. The University Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure Committee will also present its annual report. All faculty are welcome to attend. Faculty Council members may submit questions to the Chancellor and Provost by 1/11 here. If you cannot attend the meeting, you can follow and join in on our live Twitter stream at the hashtag #FacCouncil.
2012 Faculty Governance Interest Survey Live
Each year the Faculty Nominating Committee identifies faculty who are willing to undertake service to the University as members of the Faculty Council or of elected or appointed faculty-wide standing committees. The faculty elections will take place in April, while members of appointed committees will be named in early summer. All offices will begin three-year terms on July 1, 2012. We invite you to become involved by answering a five-minute survey identifying those roles for which you would be willing to be nominated, if asked, for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2012. The deadline to respond is midnight on Monday, January 30, 2012.

Last Call for 2013 Honorary Degree Nominations
The faculty Honorary Degrees and Special Awards committee invites the university community to submit nominees “who have rendered outstanding service to humanity in the world arena, in our nation, in the American South, or our State of North Carolina; made outstanding contributions to knowledge in the world of scholarship; people whose talent and creativity in the world of the arts has enriched our lives; and people whose devotion to and support of our University merits our highest recognition.” Click here for nomination information. IAH Innovation Fund proposals due this Friday, January 13
The deadline is this Friday for 200-word proposal abstracts for the 2012 IAH Innovation Fund, which provides up to $50,000 in support, additional resources, and up to a three-year partnership with the Institute for the Arts and Humanities. All tenure-track and fixed-term faculty at UNC are invited to submit proposals that support humanistic or artisticenterprise. Full information is online here.
Nominations Sought For Royster Distinguished Professorship
The Graduate School seeks nominations for the Director of the Royster Society of Fellows concurrent with an appointment as the Caroline H. and Thomas S. Royster Distinguished Professor for Graduate Education for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2012. Selection is open to any tenured professor and those holding other permanent, named professorships at UNC-CH. Go to http://go.unc.edu/Ko7s4 for more information. Deadline is January 17, 2012.
CWLC Faculty Mentoring Awards Call for Nominations
This award recognizes outstanding men and women faculty who go the extra mile to mentor students and/or junior faculty. Each recipient receives $5,000. Electronically submit nominations at: http://www.unc.edu/pcgi-bin/WLCMA_viewapp.pl by February 3, 2012.
AWFP Begins New Series of Brown Bag Lunch Discussions January 19th
The Association for Women Faculty and Professionals invites all members of the campus community to attend the first in a series of brown bag lunch discussions that will provide an informal opportunity to learn about issues important to women on our campus. The first session (January 19, 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm, Pleasants Family Room, Wilson Library) will feature Prof. Maxine Eichner (Law School) discussing the implications of the constitutional amendment regarding marriage that will appear on the North Carolina ballot next May. The next two sessions are February 20 and March 21. Registration is required.
