Faculty Council/General Faculty meeting Friday, March 19; will consider resolution to amend Faculty Code sections on the Administrative Board of the Library
The Faculty Council will meet in joint session with the General Faculty tomorrow, Friday, March 19, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in the Hitchcock Room at the Stone Center. All faculty are invited and encouraged to attend, especially since the meeting will feature the first reading and vote on a proposed amendment to the Faculty Code changing the composition of the Administrative Board of the Library. The resolution is being put forth by the Committee on University Government.

Coble and Carney alert faculty to issues with the “Course Hero” website

Correspondence to members of the UNC-Asheville faculty from Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Jane Fernandez has been forwarded to our office from Provost Carney and we now make this correspondence available to you here.
We also provide a sample “Take Down Notice” form for you to file with Course Hero should you wish to.

Thomas Jefferson Award nominations accepted through March 31
The Committee on Honorary Degrees and Special Awards is now accepting invitations for the 2010 Thomas Jefferson Award. The deadline for nominations is March 31.
The Thomas Jefferson Award was established in 1961 and is presented annually to “that member of the academic community who through personal influence and performance of duty in teaching, writing, and scholarship has best exemplified the ideals and objectives of Thomas Jefferson.” The award will be presented by the chancellor at the April 23 Faculty Council meeting. Nominations can be sent to the Office of Faculty Governance, Attention: Committee on Honorary Degrees and Special Awards, Campus Box 9170, or emailed to Joseph Ferrell, Secretary of the Faculty, at jsferrel@email.unc.edu.

Claims that gender equality has been achieved now abound. “It’s a Woman’s Nation and that changes everything,” Maria Shriver recently declared. Women now constitute more than half of the American work force, and the vast majority of women contribute income to the family economy. Indeed, the recession is accelerating this trend as women attempt to mitigate job losses mostly experienced by men. But has the gender playing field really been leveled? This talk will examine the status of gender equality and explore the continuing dynamics among work, gender, and families. It will compare, as well, the United States’ approach to these issues with those of other countries. Please feel free to bring your lunch.
Voicemail Transition Underway
Have you updated your voicemail yet? On Friday, April 30, 2010 at 6:00 p.m., UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and staff will transition to a new campus voicemail system. Between March 15 and April 30, UNC-Chapel Hill employees who currently have a voice mailbox will be required to initialize a new, personal voice mailbox on the new CallXpress platform.
