January 19th Faculty Council Meeting to Feature Discussion of Carolina North

The Faculty Council meeting on Friday, January 19, 2007 (3:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room of Wilson Library) will feature a presentation by Prof. John P. “Jack” Evans, Executive Director of Carolina North, who will update the Council on the plans for the University’s new development.

Complexity of Distance Learning at UNC Highlighted at December Faculty Council Meeting

Sparked by General Administration’s announcement of plans for establishing a portal for distance education that will allow students from across North Carolina to access distance education opportunities on various campus of the UNC System, a panel discussion at the December Faculty Council meeting explored the contours of distance learning on the UNC-CH campus.

University Steering Committee for Worker Health, Safety and Wellness Seeks More Faculty Focus Group Participants

Ben Birken, Staff Coordinator for the University Steering Committee for Worker Health, Safety and Wellness spoke at the December Faculty Council meeting  about the Committee’s work.

The Steering Committee seeks more faculty participants for several employee focus groups to be held in January and February as part of the Committee’s larger assessment of health promotion needs, assets, interests and expectations on campus.  Each focus group will last approximately 90 minutes, and meals will be provided. Only nine faculty members have responded thus far; more faculty input is needed to assure that the assessment results are meaningful and comprehensive.

All full-time employees are eligible to see if they qualify. Interested faculty members are invited to contact Ben Birken, Steering Committee Coordinator, at birken@email.unc.edu or 966-6085.
