Nominations Sought for 2007 Thomas Jefferson Faculty Award
Nominations are now being sought for the 2007 Thomas Jefferson Award, which is presented annually to “that member of the academic community who through personal influence and performance of duty in teaching, writing, and scholarship has best exemplified the ideals and objectives of Thomas Jefferson.”

Faculty Governance Interest Survey Coming to Your Email Box This Week
Earlier today, members of the Voting Faculty should have received an email message solicing interest in serving on university-wide elected and appointed faculty committees and the Faculty Council. Faculty Governance elections will be held in early April. Serving on a committee or on the Council is a great way to get to know what is going on around the University. If you are interested in getting involved, now is the time to let us know. Please respond to the survey by February 12th. If you are a member of the Voting Faculty and did not receive the survey, please let us know.

North Carolina AAUP to Hold Annual Conference March 30-31 at UNC-CH
The North Carolina state conference of the American Association of University Professors will hold its annual meeting March 30 and 31, 2007 on the University of North Carolina campus in Chapel Hill. The keynote address, which will take place Friday, March 30th at 7 p.m. in the FedEx Global Education Center, will be given by national AAUP President Cary Nelson.

Next Faculty Council Meeting, February 16, 2007
The next meeting of the Faculty Council will take place Friday, February 16, 2007 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room of Wilson Library. The Agenda Committee, which plans each Council meeting, will convene on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. All faculty are invited to attend.
