Open Forum: How can we help student-athletes who seek more time for academics and student life?

Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Pleasants Family Room, Wilson Library

A panel of coaches, athletes, recently graduated athletes, teachers, athletics support counselors , and the UNC Faculty Athletics Representative consider data about athletically-related time demands and respond to proposals for NCAA action in January 2017 about student-athletes’ time commitments. The focus is on supporting student needs, understanding UNC’s arrangements and student-athletes’ choices, and inform UNC’s stance on formal NCAA proposals and other actions.

The panel includes:

  • Coach Harlis Meaders (Track and Cross Country)
  • Professor David Navalinksy (Dramatic Arts)
  • Jenn Townsend (Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes)
  • Maggie Auslander (Student-athlete, Psychology; Lacrosse)
  • Ezra F. Baeli-Wang (Student-athlete, Peace, War and Defense, Chinese; Fencing)
  • Justin Jackson (Student-athlete, Exercise and Sport Science; Basketball)
  • Deunta Williams (Alumnus, Management & Society; B.A. 2011, UNC; M.B.A. 2015; Football)
