Members of the voting faculty are asked to vote on resolutions to amend The Faculty Code of University Government, our university’s foundational document for faculty governance. Amendments to The Faculty Code require two votes: one by the Faculty Council, and if adopted, a second one by the general faculty. This fall, the Faculty Council voted to approve three resolutions amending different sections of The Faculty Code.

Resolution 2024-7. Amending The Faculty Code of University Government to Reallocate the Membership of the Administrative Board of the Library.

The Administrative Board of the Library has 15 members. At present, seven members are elected by the faculty, seven are appointed by the chair of the faculty, and one (the University Librarian) serves ex officio. Two of the appointees are from the Health Affairs schools. This amendment changes the Health Affairs seats to elected ones, increasing the number of elected members to nine.

Resolution 2024-8. Amending The Faculty Code of University Government to Increase and Specify the Membership of the Faculty Information Technology Advisory Committee.

This amendment increases the membership of the Faculty Information Technology Advisory Committee from seven members to fifteen members to enable broader representation from academic units across campus.

Resolution 2024-9. Amending The Faculty Code of University Government to Revise the Membership and Charge of the Faculty Committee on Research.

This amendment increases the membership of the Faculty Committee on Research from nine to ten members, and stipulates that members must have active research portfolios. It requires the committee’s membership to represent a wide range of disciplines and academic units, and specifies the ranks of some of the members to provide representation across ranks. It also amends the committee’s charge to clarify the relationship between the committee and the Vice Chancellor for Research, and to emphasize certain issues.

All members of the voting faculty will receive an electronic ballot on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The polling survey will be open through midnight on Wednesday, Dec.18.
