Nomination deadline for the UNC-CH candidate for the 2025 Oliver Max Gardner Award extended to Monday, November 25
The Office of Faculty Governance, on behalf of the Committee on Honorary Degrees and Special Awards, is now accepting nominations for the 2025 O. Max Gardner Award through November 25, 2024 (extended from November 14).
The award, established in 1947 by the will of former North Carolina Governor O. Max Gardner, recognizes a member of the UNC System faculty “who, during the current scholastic year, has made the greatest contribution to the welfare of the human race.” The winner is selected by the UNC Board of Governors from nominations submitted by each campus. The Gardner award is the highest honor the System confers on faculty and is the only award for which faculty members across all campuses are eligible.
The 2024 Gardner Award recipient is Dr. Craig Yencho, the William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor in the Department of Horticultural Science at NC State’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Since 2016, four of our remarkable Carolina colleagues have been presented with the System-wide award: Ralph Baric, H. Shelton Earp, Samantha Meltzer-Brody, and Aziz Sancar.
More information about the award and instructions for submitting a nomination are available on the Office of Faculty Governance website.
