Chair of the Faculty Mimi Chapman shared the following message with all faculty today.

Dear Colleagues:

No doubt many of you are concerned about rising COVID-19 numbers around the country and the new variant that results in increased transmission. In addition, you are likely wondering how this will impact the plans for the spring semester here at UNC-Chapel Hill. I want you to know that I, along with Employee Forum Chair Shayna Hill and Student Body President Reeves Moseley, have spoken with Chancellor Guskiewicz today to learn more about what decision-making process is transpiring and what types of options are being considered. He asked for our feedback, which we provided. As the Chancellor described in communications in November and December, he has been meeting with public health and infectious disease faculty on our campus and with the Orange County Health Department this week to review options and decide on a course of action. He has told us that a decision will be communicated no later than Friday morning.

My best to you as we prepare for the spring semester.
