Dear Colleagues,
I invite you to attend the mid-year commencement ceremony with me. Winter Commencement will take place on Sunday, December 15, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Dean E. Smith Center. Faculty members are strongly encouraged to join the processional with or without regalia.
This year’s commencement speaker is William R. Ferris, the Joel R. Williamson Eminent Professor emeritus in our UNC History Department. Professor Ferris, who recently received two Grammy awards for Voices of Mississippi: Artists and Musicians, is a widely recognized leader in Southern studies and folklore, the history of Mississippi Blues music and documentary photography.
Faculty will assemble before the ceremony at 1:30 p.m. in the Press Room of the Smith Center. Please Use Entry D and take the elevator down to the court level. The processional will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Faculty parking will be in the top tier of the Manning Lot. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Amelia Stallings at ameliabl@unc.edu by Friday December 13 to have your name added to the parking list.
To access the top tier of the Manning Lot, enter via Skipper Bowles Drive by the Ernie Williamson Athletic Center. The Manning Lot top tier is located beside the Smith Center. See directions and a map here.
More information on winter commencement, including information on renting or purchasing academic regalia, is available here.
I hope to see many of you there. Professor Ferris will offer valuable perspectives for the graduates, and I know your presence at this event will be appreciated by our graduating students and their families.
All the best,
Lloyd Kramer
