The Office of Faculty Governance worked in conjunction with the Faculty Executive Committee to offer a series of brainstorming workshops for faculty to generate ideas about the disposition of the Confederate statue known as Silent Sam.
The feedback has been compiled into a report (PDF)
Faculty from across campus participated in the workshops, which were held from October 3-10, 2018. While many faculty were wary of the process, many who participated appreciated the opportunity to discuss issues about the statue in a formal manner. All of the data has been shared with the Chancellor’s Office and Board of Trustees who will consider this input from faculty, as well as feedback gathered from students, staff and the community, as they formulate a plan for the statue’s disposition to present to the Board of Governors.
