Bruce Cairns, chair of the faculty, speaks during the University Day celebration.

Dear faculty colleagues,

It’s the time of year again to celebrate the official founding of the University. I hope you will join me and your faculty colleagues at the annual University Day processional and celebration. We will honor our distinguished alumni and Edward Kidder Graham co-recipients at the ceremony.

Please remember that University Day will be celebrated onTuesday, October 11, 2016 in Memorial Hall. The date has been moved this year to accommodate Yom Kippur. Please check your syllabi to be sure you have the correct date if you teach during this time.

Faculty and staff should gather at the Old Well beginning at 10:30 a.m. In case of rain, faculty and staff will gather in the Anne Queen Faculty Commons in the Campus Y building.

Academic regalia is welcomed but not required.  Faculty who would like to rent regalia for the University Day procession should contact Sarah Hockaday at sjhockaday@store.unc.edu at Student Stores by Friday, September 23, 2016.  Please notify the Office of University Events (staceywarner@unc.edu or 919-962-2821) regarding your participation. Additional information is available at http://www.unc.edu/universityday/.

I encourage your participation in representing your school during the processional. I look forward to seeing all of you there.

Sincerely,

Bruce Cairns
