The General Faculty and the Faculty Council considered three resolutions presented by the Committee on University Government at the January 29 Faculty Council meeting. Each of the resolutions passed the first reading and will be voted on once more on February 19.

Resolution 2016-1. On Amending the Faculty Code of University Government to Provide for Vacancy Appointments for Faculty Officers allows the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee to fill temporary vacancies for the chair of the faculty and secretary of the faculty positions until the officer can resume their duties.

Resolution 2016-2. On Amending the Faculty Code of University Government to Enlarge the Faculty Athletics Committee and Clarify its Charge brings the membership of the Faculty Athletics Committee up to 12 members from nine. It also removes oversight of recreational athletic opportunities for faculty and staff from its charge, and the resolution proposes to narrow the charge to focus on varsity athletics and student-athletes’ experiences.

Resolution 2016-3. On Amending the Faculty Code of University Government to Enlarge the Faculty Grievance Committee proposes to expand the membership of the Faculty Grievance Committee from 10 to 12 members and raises the number of fixed-term faculty members from one to three.

The Faculty Council also heard presentations from Professor Sherick Hughes (Education) on Interdependence Wednesday and Professor Julie Byerly (Medicine) and Dean Terry Rhodes on the work of the Ethics and Integrity Working Group. Click here to read a full account of the meeting.
