The Carolina Seminars Program’s Altacs in Academe Seminar invites all faculty members—and especially directors of graduate studies and placement directors—to join them at 10:10 am on April 10, 2015 in Greenlaw Hall’s Donovan Lounge for an informal conversation about graduate student career preparation with Dr. Brenda Bethman of the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC). This event will focus on how faculty and directors of graduate studies and departments can better support students with professional development experiences that are responsive to the realities of the post-PhD job market.

Please RSVP to dbickford@unc.edu if you plan to attend.

Dr. Bethman holds a Ph.D. in Modern German Studies from UMass Amherst and is the co-founder of Alt/Academix, a consulting firm that provides workshops and individual consultations to help graduate students and PhDs make themselves marketable for academic administrative positions. She has been the Director of the UMKC Women’s Center since January 2007. In addition, she serves as Acting Director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, and teaches for the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and the Honors Program.
