Faculty Governance Graduate Research Assistant, spring 2014

The Office of Faculty Governance is seeking a UNC-Chapel Hill graduate student assistant for the spring 2014 semester. The graduate student will assist the Executive Assistant and the Faculty Welfare Committee with a semester-long project to research and draft a faculty handbook for publication online and in print.

The graduate assistant will work closely with Faculty Governance staff to identify relevant university policies for inclusion in the handbook, to research best practices for faculty handbooks, and to publish the handbook online. The graduate assistant will be responsible for drafting the faculty handbook and incorporating suggestions and edits from the Faculty Welfare Committee, University Counsel, and Faculty Governance staff.

Skills:

An ideal candidate will have:

  • Exceptional research, writing, and editing skills
  • The ability to understand and summarize complex policy information
  • An interest in higher education policy
  • Familiarity with WordPress or another web publishing platform or a willingness to learn

Compensation:

This position will require approximately 10-15 hours per week at a rate of $17/hour. The position does not include health coverage, benefits or tuition remission.
