University Day will be celebrated on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in Memorial

Hall. All members of the University community are invited to attend the celebration commemorating the laying of the cornerstone of Old East and the official founding of the University. Since 1971 the University has awarded Distinguished Alumna and Alumnus Awards on this day. This year’s recipients are Amy Lansky, M.P.H. 1991, Ph.D. 1996; Berrien Moore, III, B.S. Mathematics 1963; Judith Stanton, Ph.D. 1978; Richard Stevens B.A. 1970, J.D. 1974, M.P.A. 1978; Mike Wiley M.F.A. 2004.

Nancy Allbritton, Kenan Distinguished Professor and Chair of Biomedical Engineering and Chemistry, will be honored with the 2017 Edward Kidder Graham Award.

Please encourage your faculty colleagues to march in the faculty procession. Each school will be represented with a banner that faculty and staff will process behind. Academic regalia is not required but can be rented or purchased through Student Stores. Regalia rentals may be kept through Winter Commencement if you plan to participate in both ceremonies.

Faculty will gather at the Old Well beginning at 10:30 a.m. Faculty who would like to rent regalia for the University Day processional should contact Sarah Hockaday at sjhockaday@store.unc.edu at Student Store. Please notify the Office of University Events (staceywarner@unc.edu or 919-962-2821) no later than Friday, October 6, 2017, regarding your participation.
